PCS-803 GRIP-TITE
PENETRATING EPOXY PRIMER

DESCRIPTION:  A VOC compliant, catalyzed epoxy composition designed to be used as a primer on steel, concrete and masonry surfaces in conjunction with various Permite epoxy toppings, floor coatings and topcoats. Grip-Tite is also useful as a bonding agent to old existing finishes which have degraded and lost their integrity. Grip-Tite may be applied over damp surfaces if standing water is first removed; it contains a special blend of solvents to facilitate the displacement of moisture in pores and crevices.

SURFACE PREPARATION:  Dense, smooth, hard troweled concrete should be cleaned by abrasive blasting to remove any surface hardeners or curing compounds prior to coating. Rough concrete with a “broom finish” should be prepared in the same manner; however, acid etch is acceptable when technical bulletin “Cement and Related Products Preparation for Coating” is followed.

MIXING:  Do not mix until the surface has been prepared. Mix equal portions of BASE and HARDENER together. It is not necessary to mix the entire kit at one time. Partially filled containers should be closed tightly. No induction time is required.

APPLICATION:  The density and porosity of concrete surfaces vary so greatly, it is difficult to determine an exact spread rate. Application by brush, roller or spray should result in a completely wetted glaze appearance. A spread rate of 200 square feet per gallon is a good guideline for most applications. More than one coat may be required for porous surfaces. After application, allow approximately 1 hour for most of the solvent to evaporate.  The ideal situation is to apply the finish coat to a “tacky” Grip-Tite primer. Although application of the primer in heavier films is not critical to performance, the necessary cure time could be as long as 8 hours. It may be applied at temperatures down to 35oF; however, the cure time will be significantly longer. Recoat before 36 hours to avoid poor intercoat adhesion.

CLEAN-UP:  REDUCER #76 or proprietary epoxy solvent blends.

CAUTIONS:  Flammable mixture.  Contains solvents.  Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame.  Use only with adequate ventilation.  AVOID PROLONGED BREATHING OF VAPORS.  AVOID PROLONGED OR REPEATED CONTACT WITH SKIN.  Keep containers closed when not in use.  If used in confined areas, observe the following precautions to prevent hazards of fire or explosions or damage to health:  (1) circulate adequate fresh air continuously during application and drying;  (2) use fresh air masks and explosion-proof equipment;  (3) prohibit all flames, sparks, welding, and smoking near area.

If swallowed, do not induce vomiting.  Call a physician immediately.  For eye contact, flush with lots of water.  In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water.

See material safety data sheets for full precautions prior to use.
